Abstract

This paper examines the optimal reliability approaches to allocate the reliability values based on minimization of the total cost for a series-parallel systems. The problem is approached as a nonlinear programming problem and general costs formulas were suggested. The original results include: (i) submersion of a â€series-parallel system†into a â€series systemâ€, (ii) detailed analyse of a series-parallel system whose components of each subsystem have the same reliability; (iii) designing series-parallel systems by similarities with other engineering problems; (iv) dualities between reliability systems and electric circuits.
